Abstract

The main aim during IoT systems operation is to provide remote monitoring and control based on data collection from sensors that are used in the network. Traditional approach to the data exchange in them very often contains unsolved problems, namely: high energy consumption; significant overhead charges; difficulties with scaling; reliability and quality of data transmission; cybersecurity of the Internet-mobile data collection system, since connecting a large number of devices creates serious risks.

Thanks to the use of new and inexpensive ESP microcontrollers and simple MQTT protocol, it has become possible to create compact and reliable industrial technological solutions that allow one to create flexible systems that can in a stable mode to transmit data with minimal resource consumption, which, in turn, allows one to monitor and control complex objects in real time.

The proposed architecture, software and hardware and interaction protocols of the IoT monitoring system components based on ESP microcontrollers and the MQTT protocol can become the basis to create affordable and scalable solutions. This primarily concerns the "smart home", agromonitoring and operation of ship power plants. A conceptual system architecture has been developed, which is based on the "Publisher-Subscriber" pattern, when all system components are not tied to each other and during their operation logical separation is used only.

A comprehensive verification of the proposed concept of the IoT data collection system, which was carried out using an experimental plant for temperature measurement, allowed testing of statistical data processing algorithms. There also a stability of the MQTT communication channel and speed of server request processing and the system's response to dynamic changes in environmental parameters has been tested.

The developed system is quite flexible and combines low cost and ease of implementation. It makes it a promising alternative to expensive commercial platforms, which often are unreasonably expensive.
